چکیده

20,000 people obtained a living from this fishery. But since then, catches have fallen to around 5,000–10,000 tons but prices have risen substantially, maintaining the incentive to pursue this declining species. Overfishing, in combination with habitat loss, pollution, the damming of rivers and climate change affecting ocean currents, have all contributed to the sharp decline in eel populations. The stock of juvenile eels is estimated to have declined by 95–99 per cent since 1980, Cites say. However, eels have a high survival rate, meaning that wild populations could recover if fewer young eels were caught.

Individual versus collective cognition in social insects

The concerted responses of eusocial insects to environmental stimuli are often referred to as collective cognition at the level of the colony. To achieve collective cognition, a group can draw on two different sources: individual cognition and the connectivity between individuals. Computation in neural networks, for example, is attributed more to sophisticated communication schemes than to the ...

A Non-linear Integer Bi-level Programming Model for Competitive Facility Location of Distribution Centers

The facility location problem is a strategic decision-making for a supply chain, which determines the profitability and sustainability of its components. This paper deals with a scenario where two supply chains, consisting of a producer, a number of distribution centers and several retailers provided with similar products, compete to maintain their market shares by opening new distribution cent...

A New Personalized Learning Path Generation Method: Aco-map

Personalized curriculum sequencing is an important issue to achieve learning goal especially in e-learning systems. The main challenge of the traditional teaching system is providing courses suitable to different learners with different knowledge background. Therefore, many researchers developed adaptive learning path systems in order to promote the effectiveness and performance of learning pro...

Modeling a Honeybee using Spiking Neural Network to Simulate Nectar Reporting Behavior

Swarm cognition is the field that explores the possibility of implanting human cognitive functions on machines by transplanting the processes in naturally self-organized colonies. These natural colonies, especially ant colony, honey bee colony, etc, have been deeply studied to explore the factors which enable them to simulate high cognitive functions, such as decision making, labor division, et...

Towards constructing an Integrative, Multi-Level Model for Cognition: The Function of Semantic Networks

Integrated approaches try to connect different constructs in different theories and reinterpret them using a common conceptual framework. In this research, using the concept of processing levels, an integrated, three-level model of the cognitive systems has been proposed and evaluated. Processing levels are divided into three categories of Feature-Oriented, Semantic and Conceptual Level based o...

Swarm Cognition Workshop

What do ants and neurons have in common? A bit of reasoning reveals that they share much more than one would intuitively think. An ant is part of a colony, much as a neuron is part of the brain. An ant cannot do much in isolation, but a colony is a highly resilient adaptive system. Similarly, a neuron is individually able just of limited interaction with other neurons, but the brain displays hi...
